VDOT has extended the comment period for the design public hearing that was held October 9, 2013 on the proposed roundabout at Braddock Road and Pleasant Valley Road. Submit your comments by October 30, 2013 to Mr. Leonard “Bud” Siegel, P.E. at the VDOT District Office address above. You may also e-mail comments to meeting_comments@VDOT.virginia.gov. Please reference “Braddock and Pleasant Valley Roundabout” in the subject line.
This project would improve the intersection of Braddock Road (Route 620) and Pleasant Valley Road (Route 609) in western Fairfax County. The intersection is currently a four-way stop, with a single lane in each direction.
During weekday peak hours, the intersection experiences substantial congestion, operating at full capacity with extensive backups on Braddock Road eastbound in the mornings and westbound in the evenings. The congestion results in severe delays, causing the intersection to operate at a service level of “F” (failing) during peak periods.
Designs for improvements here must take into account parkland, commercial property, an Agricultural-Forestal District, wetlands, rare habitats, and significant overhead utility poles. Taking these constraints into consideration, VDOT, in cooperation with Fairfax County, is preparing preliminary plans based on the concept shown below. It will be refined as the design is further developed.
Please note the concept drawing only shows potential pavement limits and does not depict additional elements like shoulders, drainage ditches, etc.

VDOT will prepare an environmental impact document for the project and prepare preliminary design plans. A preliminary design will be available for public review and comment at a public hearing.
The anticipated project schedule is as follows:
• Public hearing in early fall 2013
• Advertise for a design-build contract in late 2013
