About the Project
This project will improve safety and alleviate congestion at the intersection of Evergreen Mills Road (Route 621) and Ryan Road (Route 772) in Ashburn.
Currently, traffic backs up at the southbound left turn from Evergreen Mills to Ryan Road during the morning rush hour and the westbound right turn from Ryan Road to Evergreen Mills during the evening rush. The intersection is currently controlled by stop signs on Ryan Road and Red Hill Road.
The project will install a traffic signal at the intersection to help address safety and operational issues and widen both Evergreen Mills Road and Ryan Road to include turn lanes and paved shoulders along the intersection approaches.
- Ryan Road will gain a westbound right-turn-only lane and paved shoulders in both directions. A separate inside lane will be used as a westbound thru left-turn lane.
- Southbound Evergreen Mills will gain a separate left-turn lane to Ryan Road. The outside lane will be a thru-right turn lane onto Red Hill Road.
- The northbound Evergreen Mills approach to the intersection will have a designated right-turn lane onto Ryan Road, a thru lane, and an additional separate left-turn lane onto Red Hill Road.
- Guardrail and drainage improvements will be made within the project limits and two storm water management ponds will be provided as part of the project.
