About the Project
This project will replace the deteriorated culvert at Guinea Road over Long Branch in Fairfax County. In the past, flooding has overflowed the pipes and overtopped the roadway, causing extensive damage to the pipes, outlet headwalls, roadway pavement, pipe settlement, and erosion at the downstream end of the structure. The culvert has deteriorated to the extent where temporary jacking was installed to support the pipes.
The new bridge will be built within the existing right of way. It will be 54 feet long, and about 15 feet wider and three feet higher than the existing bridge.
Except for a brief nighttime closure necessary to set the new bridge structure, it is expected that Guinea Road will remain open to two lanes of traffic at al times. The closure and detour is expected to last not more than a few hours and will be well posted.
About 15,000 vehicles per day use Guinea Road.
