What's Being Done
Three curves on Pleasant Valley Road between Route 50 and Route 29 will be straightened as part of VDOT’s Hazard Elimination Safety Program. Work on the $900,000 project begin June 3 and will be completed by October. The Virginia Department of Transportation will close Pleasant Valley Road just north and south of Braddock Road at Schneiders Crossroads in Fairfax County, while area schools are closed for summer break.
Closing the roads to thru-traffic for the summer will allow crews to work at an accelerated pace and avoid months of mid-day lane closures which would be necessary if a conventional schedule were followed. Detour signs will be in place to guide motorist around the impacted areas prior to the closures.
Benefits
This project is designed to reduce accidents, improve sight distances and improve drainage. It is not designed to remove truck restrictions, increase the speed limit or increase the road capacity.Contacts
