What's Being Done

The Upperville traffic calming project began in early March 2007 at a cost of $5.6 million.

Drivers approaching Upperville are now transitioned from the 50 mph zone to a 35 mph zone with landscaping, sidewalks, and raised crosswalks and intersections in the village area. The gateway to the village in each direction now features stone fencing. On-street parking is being added along with curb and gutter and a closed drainage system.

The materials used for the sidewalks, curbs, crosswalks, and raised intersections were chosen to complement the historic and rural nature of the community. The roadway was milled and resurfaced and special provisions in the contract protected large trees during construction.
