About the project
This project was completed on April 28, 2014. Two concrete ADA ramps damaged in snow removal efforts were removed and replaced on June 9, 2014.
The project upgraded the existing traffic signal at Wiehle Avenue (Route 828) and Center Harbor Road in Reston.
The previous signal had poor visibility for oncoming vehicles, which caused conflicts for crossing vehicles and pedestrians and abrupt stops by the approaching vehicles. These conflicts created safety hazards for crossing vehicles and pedestrians and following vehicles. The purpose of this project was to upgrade the existing traffic signal with the objective of reducing right-angle, rear-end and pedestrian/bicyclist crashes.
About 14,000 vehicles per day use this intersection.
