About the project

This project would upgrade the existing traffic signal at Wiehle Avenue (Route 828) and Center Harbor Road in Reston.

The existing signal has poor visibility for oncoming vehicles, which causes conflicts for crossing vehicles and pedestrians and abrupt stops by the approaching vehicles. These conflicts create safety hazards for crossing vehicles and pedestrians and following vehicles. The purpose of this project is to upgrade the existing traffic signal with the objective of reducing right-angle, rear-end and pedestrian/bicyclist crashes.

About 14,000 vehicles per day use this intersection.
