Route 50 Traffic Calming Measures - Kenny's Column

November 7, 2008

With the election just a few days behind us, VDOT has already begun work preparing for the anticipated traffic issues that will occur for the inauguration.   With that event only about 10 weeks away, transportation officials from Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia have met to discuss ways to cooperate and communicate about traffic for the area.  More information about VDOT plans and impacts to the Route 50 corridor will be forthcoming in the near future.

GILBERTS CORNER:
The contractor will be working some Saturdays in November as long as the good weather we are having continues.  Working in coming along well on Roundabout #2 and you will start to see some work soon at the Watson Road Roundabout.

The contractor will continue to have lane closures near Roundabout #2 during off peak hours to tie in the new connector road to existing Route 50.  Be careful and watch for the flaggers.

Project Manager Kenny Robinson, met this week with a reporter from the Loudoun Independent newspaper to discuss some of the progress on the project.  Watch for a story in that publication soon.

ALDIE:
VDOT and the consultant designer will be meeting with the Aldie Fire Department next week to review the plans and to insure that the project construction will not interfere with the ability of the Fire and Rescue vehicles to enter and exit the station.

UPPERVILLE:
The contractor has been paving again on the section of Route 50 West of Upperville between Snake Den Road and the West edge of Upperville.  VDOT has seeded the shoulder stone along the corridor and will be coming back later to install a soil and gravel mix to the shoulders.

Our good friend and former Route 50 Construction Manager, Billy Green, was in Upperville this week to see the Running of the Dogs and to attend the Upperville brunch.  Billy enjoyed seeing many of the friends he made while constructing the Upperville project.  Billy has not allowed retirement to slow him down and is busy working with his new company.

ROUTE 50 TASK FORCE:
The next meeting will be Wednesday November 12, 2008 in the Middleburg Town Hall starting at 4:30 p.m.

That’s all for this week, feel free to stop by the Aldie office or contact us by phone or email.
