The ramp from I-95 south to E. Franklin Street is narrowed to one lane.
In addition, the following traffic patterns will be in place throughout the life of the project:
- E. Franklin Street eastbound will be closed between 14th Street and 15th Street.
- Motorists heading north on 15th Street will only be allowed to turn right on E. Franklin Street.
- Motorists heading south on 15th Street will not be allowed to turn left to E. Franklin St. into Main Street Station and will be detoured to E. Main St.
- Motorists leaving Main Street Station and heading west on E. Franklin Street will only be allowed to turn left on 15th Street.
While the work is underway, drivers should expect significant traffic impacts, especially during the morning rush hour. To avoid delays, drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes.
The $2.3 million project will widen the ramp from I-95 south to East Franklin Street (Exit 74B) in the City of Richmond. Work includes widening the ramp from two to three lanes and installing new traffic signals and pedestrian crossings.
The project will improve traffic flow on the ramp and reduce congestion on I-95, especially during the morning rush hour. In addition, pedestrian safety will be improved with new crosswalks.
Construction began December 2018 and is expected to be complete by summer 2019.
