What's being done?

Project improvements include: providing north and southbound turn lanes from Maidens Rd. (Route 522) to westbound Old River Trail (Route 617), improving the intersection sight distance from eastbound Route 617 to southbound Route 522, widening pavement on Route 522 to current-day standards of 12 feet, widening shoulders to 4 feet on Route 522 and improving the roadside ditch lines to modern standards.

Traffic Impacts

There will be intermittent alternating lane closures weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Drivers will be guided by flagging operations.

A minor traffic shift will be in place beginning on Tuesday, September 5 for final phase of construction.

A citizen information meeting was held September 24, 2013 at the Powhatan Village Community Building. Fact Sheet

A public hearing was held on June 24, 2015 at the Powhatan County Public Library. A brochure is available.
