What's Being Done
Originally constructed in 1958, the aging Sycamore Street (Rt. 301) bridge over I-85 in Petersburg has been identified for repairs. The rehabilitation project involves bridge deck and beam replacement, and repair to deteriorated areas. The bridge carries approximately 10,000 vehicles per day.
Impact on Traffic
During construction, a temporary signal will be in place along Sycamore Street to allow for alternating one way traffic. Minimum lane widths on the bridge will be 12.5 feet, which will allow for fire trucks, delivery trucks and other normal width vehicles to use the bridge.Periodic, overnight lane closures on I-85 will be required during construction. These will take place between 9:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. to avoid peak hour congestion. During the I-85 lane closures, one lane of travel will be maintained in each direction.
