What's Being Done?
This project will widen one mile of Route 114 (Peppers Ferry Road) at New River Valley Mall in Christiansburg from two to four lanes with turn lanes and improve access management by installing a raised median.
The project also will include relocating the signal at the mall entrance and building a new Huckleberry Trail bridge over Route 114.
Traffic Impacts
Weather permitting, the contractor will be placing asphalt in open cut areas where the water line is being installed on the east end of the project. Starting June 10, 2013, periodic short-term closures are planned on Bradley Street, Marshall Drive and at the mall entrance. These closures will be done one at a time and could span one to two days starting June 10. Drivers should be seek alternate routes around these closures.
Flaggers may control traffic at times for utility operations taking place for a road widening project on Route 114 (Peppers Ferry Road) near the New RiverValley Mall. Trucks will be entering and exiting the road in this area. Occasional flagging operations will take place from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on weekdays.
The intersection of Stafford Drive and Peppers Ferry Road will be closed from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. A new traffic pattern will be in place on Peppers Ferry Road from east of Walnut drive to the BP gas station. Eastbound traffic will be shifted to one of the westbound lanes reducing the two westbound lanes to one.
