Welcome to VDOT's "Luray 2020 Transportation Plan" study web site. The study was conducted to provide long term needs assessment for the Town's thoroughfare highway system. The study area included the town limits and the urbanizing portions of Page County immediately surrounding the town. Within the study area the following roadway segments were evaluated:
- Lee Highway from the
eastern corporate limits to the western corporate limits
- US 340 Business
(Broad Street) from southern corporate limits to the northern corporate
limits·
- US 211 Business (Main
Street) from the western corporate limits to the eastern corporate limits·
- Chappel Road from the
southern corporate limits to Fairview Road·
- Collins Road from
Marye Lane to Lee Highway
- Court Street from the
southern corporate limits to West Main Street
- Fairview Road from
Reservoir Avenue to Antioch Road
- Hawksbill Street from
Main Street to Lee Highway
- Leaksville Road from
the southern corporate limits to Main Street
- Lee Street from Main
Street to Mechanic Street
- Linden Street from
Broad Street to Hawksbill Heights Drive
- Marye Lane from the
northern corporate limits to Collins Road
- Mechanic Street from
the western corporate limits to Broad Street
- Virginia Avenue from
the southern corporate limits to Main Street
- Wallace Road from
Main Street to the northern corporate limits
Data collected for the study of the town included:
- traffic counts
conducted in October 1998
- accident report
information from 1997 through 1999
- a detailed inventory
of on-street and off-street parking facilities
- travel time and delay
data on the roadway system
- VDOT database of
roadway geometric conditions (dimensions)
- review of tourism and
goods movement issues in the Town
The above information was analyzed to identify Luray's 2020 transportation needs based upon highway capacity, geometry, and safety as well as other concerns that may be raised by local officials and citizens. The Virginia Department of Transportation held a meeting to present proposed recommendations for the Luray 2020 Transportation Plan on October 18, 1999 at the Luray Municipal Offices. The purpose of the meeting was to describe the current and future transportation needs, as well as recommended improvements to the Luray thoroughfare system. The Luray Town Council and the Page County Board of Supervisors approved the Luray 2020 Transportation Plan on December 13, 1999.
