Recommendations were developed for these city streets as well as thoroughfare streets throughout Henry County.

Data collected for the study of the city includes:

  • traffic counts conducted in September 2001
  • accident report information from 1998 through 2000
  • VDOT database of roadway geometric conditions (dimensions)
  • review of tourism and goods movement issues in the City

The above information was analyzed to identify Henry County and the City of Martinsville’s 2020 transportation needs based upon highway capacity, geometry, and safety as well as other concerns that were raised by local officials and citizens. A public meeting will be held on December 11, 2003 at the Henry County Administration Building located at 3300 Kings Mountain Road in Collinsville, Virginia. The propose of this meeting is to describe the current and future transportation needs, as well as recommended improvements to the County’s thoroughfare system. VDOT representatives will be available for questions during the meeting.

The Martinsville-Henry County Area Transportation Plan will be considered for adoption in early 2004.
