Town of Pulaski

Welcome to VDOT's "Pulaski 2020 Transportation Plan" study web site. The recently completed Pulaski 2020 Transportation Plan was conducted to provide long term needs assessment for the Town's thoroughfare highway system. The boundaries of the study were the corporate limits of the Town of Pulaski. The following roadway segments were evaluated:

  • Washington Avenue from the Southern Corporate Limits to Lee Highway
  • Lee Highway from Washington Avenue to the Northern Corporate Limits
  • Randolph Avenue from the Northern Corporate Limits to Commerce Avenue
  • Main Street from Magazine Road to the Eastern Corporate Limits
  • 3rd Street from Randolph Avenue to East Main Street
  • Bob White Boulevard from Main Street to the Northern Corporate Limits of Pulaski
  • Alum Spring Road from Lee Hwy to the Northern Corporate Limits
  • Peppers Ferry Road from Lee Highway at Northern Corporate Limits to Lee Highway
  • 5th Street from Washington Avenue to Randolph Avenue
  • Commerce Street from Howard Street to Washington Avenue
  • Dora Highway from Washington Avenue to East Main Street (Route 99)
  • Memorial Drive from Bob White Boulevard to Lee Highway
  • Valley Road from Pulaski Street to Commerce Street
  • Howard Street from Case Knife Road to Commerce Street
  • Case Knife Road from the Southern Corporate Limits to Howard Street
  • Altoona Road from the Western Corporate Limits to Main Street
  • Magazine Road from Mt. Olivet Road to Main Street
  • Mt. Olivet Road from the Western Corporate Limits to Magazine Road

Data collected for the study of the town included:

  • traffic counts conducted in September 2000
  • accident report information from 1996 through 1998
  • VDOT database of roadway geometric conditions (dimensions)
  • review of tourism and goods movement issues in the Town

The above information was analyzed to identify Pulaski's 2020 transportation needs based upon highway capacity, geometry, and safety as well as other concerns that may be raised by local officials and citizens. A pubic meeting was held on October 2, 2001 at the Pulaski Municipal Building by the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Town of Pulaski. The purpose of the meeting was to present the draft recommendations included in the Pulaski 2020 Transportation Plan and to allow Pulaski citizens to comment on the plan. The Pulaski 2020 Transportation Plan was approved by the Pulaski Town Council on November 6, 2001.
