Welcome to VDOT's "Buena Vista 2020 Transportation Plan" study web site. The study is being conducted to provide long term needs assessment for the City's thoroughfare highway system. The boundaries of the study area are the corporate limits of the City of Buena Vista. The following roadway segments are being evaluated:

  • 29th Street (Route 60) from the West Corporate Limits to the East Corporate Limits
  • Magnolia Avenue from the South Corporate Limits to 25th Street
  • Park Avenue from 25th Street to Beech Avenue
  • Beech Avenue from 22nd Street to 29th Street (Route 60)
  • 18th Street from Magnolia Avenue to Sycamore Street
  • Sycamore Avenue from 18th Street to 22nd Street
  • 24th Street from Magnolia Avenue to Cedar Avenue
  • 13th Street from Magnolia Avenue to Cedar Avenue
  • Maple Avenue from 13th Street to 25½th Street
  • 25½th Street from Maple Avenue to Walnut Avenue
  • Walnut Avenue from 25½th Street to Ridge Road
  • Ridge Road from Walnut Avenue to 29th Street (Route 60)
  • 21st Street from Sycamore Avenue to Cedar Avenue
  • 17th Street from Magnolia Avenue to Cedar Avenue
  • Rockbridge Avenue from 29th Street (Route 60) to Catalpa Avenue
  • Catalpa Avenue from 29th Street (Route 60) to the North Corporate Limits
  • Long Hollow Road from Orchard Street to Catalpa Avenue
  • Cedar Avenue from 13th Street to 24th Street
  • 10th Street from the West Corporate Limit to Magnolia Avenue
  • 20th Street from Sycamore Avenue to Cedar Avenue
  • Culvert Street from 29th Street (Route 60) to Orchard Street

Data collected for the study of the City includes:

  • traffic counts conducted in April 1999
  • accident report information from 1996 through 1998
  • VDOT database of roadway geometric conditions (dimensions)
  • review of tourism and goods movement issues in the City

The above information is being analyzed to identify Buena Vista's 2020 transportation needs based upon highway capacity, geometry, and safety as well as other concerns that may be raised by local officials and citizens. A public meeting will be held Thursday, November 7, 2002 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the City Council Chambers to present the study findings and seek your input on the recommendations proposed for future improvements.
