Welcome to VDOT's "Wytheville 2020 Transportation Plan" study web site. The recently completed Wytheville 2020 Transportation Plan was conducted to provide long term needs assessment for the Town's thoroughfare highway system. The boundaries of the study were the corporate limits of the Town of Wytheville. The following roadway segments were evaluated:
The following major thoroughfare segments are being evaluated:
- I-81 & I-77 within the corporate limits
- Route 11 from the west corporate limits to I-81/I-77
- Route 21 from the south corporate limits to I-81 Southbound Ramp
- Route 52 from west corporate limits to I-81 Westbound Ramp
- Old Stage Road from west corporate limits to Route 11
- Monroe/Peppers Ferry from Route 11 to the east corporate limits
Other town thoroughfares include:
- Cove Road from Peppers Ferry to Holston Road
- Marshall Street from 4th to 11th Street
- Pine Street from West Lee to Fisher Road
- Fisher from Pine to Peppers Ferry Road
- Spring Street from 12th to 11th Street
- Ridge Road from west corporate limits to 4th
- Holston Road from 4th to Cove Road
- West Union/Withers Street from 12th to 11th Street
- Nye Road from Lithia Road to Peppers Ferry Road
- Lithia from 11th to Peppers Ferry Road
Data collected for the study of the town included:
- traffic counts conducted in August '99 and February '00
- accident report information from 1996 through 1998
- VDOT database of roadway geometric conditions (dimensions)
- review of tourism and goods movement issues in the Town
The above information was analyzed to identify Wytheville's 2020 transportation needs based upon highway capacity, geometry, and safety as well as other concerns that may be raised by local officials and citizens. A pubic meeting was held on July 16, 2001 at the Wytheville Municipal Building by the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Town of Wytheville. The purpose of the meeting was to present the draft recommendations included in the Wytheville 2020 Transportation Plan and to allow Wytheville citizens to comment on the plan. The Wytheville 2020 Transportation Plan was approved by the Wytheville Town Council on August 20, 2001.
