This project will improve traffic operational features of the Route 50 intersection with Independence Drive in Frederick County. Improvements include a new traffic signal serving Route 50 and Independence Drive, new turn lanes, improving surface drainage and replacing a deteriorated culvert across Route 50. This work will serve traffic from the Route 50 westbound left-turn lane onto Independence Drive, traffic on the Independence Drive approach, and prepare the intersection for the proposed Constitution Drive to the north.
Construction of this intersection project is in coordination with new commercial site development on both sides of Route 50.
Motorists will benefit from the project at the Route 50 and Independence Drive intersection. This project will improve the intersection’s ability to handle travelers accessing Independence Drive and Constitution Drive as a result of new commercial development in this area.
