Route 5 Bikeway Feasibility Study
Location
Route 5 between Richmond and Williamsburg, crossing portions of Henrico, Charles City, and James City Counties.
Description
The Capital to Capital Trail will provide a multi-purpose transportation facility along Route 5 that would accommodate bicyclists, pedestrians, and other non-motorized users.

Status
The feasibility study has been finalized. All three localities have officially supported the project. Please use the links below to view the preferred concept identified by the feasibility study.
VDOT received a grant from the National Scenic Byways Program of the Federal Highway Administration for preliminary engineering and environmental analysis. Environmental analysis is being conducted for all portions of the proposed trail, and formal design efforts will begin in early 2003.
Estimated Date of Completion
Funding for this project is available only for design activities; no funding presently is available for construction. VDOT is pursuing construction funding opportunities with the goal of having portions of the facility built by 2007.
