About Us


The Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment is located within the Office of the Secretary of Transportation and was created in 2002 to encourage the coordination of multimodal and intermodal planning across the various transportation modes within the commonwealth.


The goals of the office are to provide solutions that:

 


The Office advises the Office of the Secretary of Transportation and the Commonwealth Transportation Board on multimodal and intermodal issues.

Specific duties and responsibilities of the Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment are: 
 


The office coordinates with the modal agencies through a Multimodal Advisory Committee appointed by the secretary of transportation.


The committee consists of modal agency representatives as well as representatives from metropolitan planning organizations, the Virginia Association of Planning District Commissions and the Federal Highway Administration. 


Members of this committee serve as core staff to the office to perform the duties detailed above.
