VDOT News - Culpeper

CULPEPER — (11 a.m.) Virginia Department of Transportation crews are facing blowing and drifting snow due to high winds and heavy snowfall, especially in the northern half of the Culpeper District.

In the counties of Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock, all roads are listed in severe condition, meaning they are partially blocked due to drifting or accumulated snow. On Interstate 66, snow drifts are recovering the roadway as soon as it is plowed. Visibility is particularly poor in these counties, which slows the efforts of VDOT plow trucks.

I-64 and primary routes in Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene and Louisa counties are currently snow-covered. Secondary roads, numbered 600 and above, are listed in severe condition.

Treacherous driving conditions persist across much of the state. VDOT urges motorists to stay off the roads and let crews safely do the work of snow removal. They will continue to focus on the interstates and primary highways to keep them passable, shifting to address the secondary road system as the storm dissipates.
