INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS ON RT. 3 AT WILDERNESS
Lake of the Woods Way crossover closed three nights next week
CULPEPER — Overnight Dec. 13 to 15, the Virginia Department of Transportation will close the Route 3 (Germanna Highway) crossover at Lake of the Woods Way in the Wilderness area of Orange County.
The closure, which is scheduled for 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night, will allow VDOT to replace a drainage pipe and perform grading and paving work as part of a project to extend and offset, or shift left, the left-turn lanes in both directions.
Coupled with upgrades to the intersection’s traffic signal, the improvements will provide for better traffic flow for Route 3 motorists, particularly during the afternoon rush hour.
Message boards will be placed this week to notify motorists of the upcoming work. While the crossover is closed, drivers should use the median crossovers immediately east and west of Lake of the Woods Way for U-turns.
Additional work will occur over the next few months, with the project finalized in spring 2017. Motorists are asked to remain aware of equipment and workers near the travel lanes and obey signs, barrels and other traffic controls.
