OPAL U-TURN TO TAKE EFFECT FRIDAY
Closure of access from Opal to Route 17 southbound delayed by inclement weather

CULPEPER — Due to rain in the forecast, the Virginia Department of Transportation will wait until Friday to close off access from Frontage Route 1077 (Marsh Road) to Route 17 southbound in the Opal area of Fauquier County.

The change will restrict Marsh Road to local traffic only. Through traffic will be U-turned at a newly built crossover on Marsh Road about 0.8 mile south of the Opal signalized intersection, and instead should use the Route 15/29 loop ramp to reach Route 17.

The U-turn facility was constructed and paved the week of Nov. 14. Pavement markings will be placed on Friday morning, and motorists should expect the new traffic pattern to take effect before the Friday afternoon rush hour. Message boards will be updated today to reflect the rescheduled effective date.

The through-traffic restriction will improve safety and traffic flow by alleviating backups in the southbound Route 15/29 left-turn lane and through lanes.
