PART OF RT. 609 IN ORANGE CO. TO CLOSE FOR TWO WEEKS
Motorists detoured during drain pipe replacement work July 6 to 20
CULPEPER — Beginning July 6, the Virginia Department of Transportation will close a segment of Route 609 (Scuffletown Road) in Orange County for two weeks while a crew replaces a drainage pipe under the roadway.
The road will be closed 1.7 miles west of Route 20 (Constitution Highway) and 0.75 mile east of Route 644 (Ridge Road) and is expected to reopen to traffic July 20, weather permitting.
Westbound motorists will be detoured south on Route 20, then right on Route 33 (Spotswood Trail), and then right on Route 644, which carries traffic back to Route 609. Eastbound motorists will reverse the detour. Local traffic and access to driveway entrances will be maintained during the closure.
Message boards will be in place to notify the public of the closure and any weather-related schedule adjustments.
Updates and other real-time travel information can be found on the 511 Virginia website, the free VDOT 511 mobile app or by calling 511 from any phone in Virginia. Local updates are also posted to Twitter.com/VaDOTCulp.
