RAIN, SNOW WILL MAKE CENTRAL VA. ROADS SLICK
Monitor local weather; use 511 Virginia for road conditions

CULPEPER — Motorists are likely to face slick road conditions in central Virginia as tonight’s rain turns to snow early Tuesday morning. The Virginia Department of Transportation advises paying attention to local weather and adjusting travel plans accordingly.

VDOT crews will be on duty overnight to monitor conditions, particularly in areas of high elevation, where up to 3 inches of snow is forecast. Operators will treat roads with salt and sand to aid melting and provide traction, and will begin plowing as snow accumulates.

In winter weather, VDOT reminds drivers to reduce speeds, increase following distance and allow plenty of travel time. Use extra caution on bridges, overpasses, ramps and other areas that tend to freeze first.

Road conditions and other real-time travel information can be found on the 511 Virginia website, the free VDOT 511 mobile app or by calling 511 from any phone in Virginia. Local updates are also on the district’s Twitter account, @VaDOTCulp.
