ROUTE 3 TRAFFIC SHIFT RESCHEDULED FOR OCT. 3
Motorists will use new westbound lanes
CULPEPER —On Monday, Oct. 3, the Virginia Department of Transportation plans to perform a traffic shift on Route 3 (Germanna Highway) between Route 739 (Clay Hill Road) and Lignum in Culpeper County, where a project is ongoing to widen the roadway to four lanes. The shift was originally scheduled for Sept. 28 but was postponed due to weather conditions.
Work will begin at 9 a.m. to paint new lane markings and adjust traffic control devices. Motorists should expect brief traffic stops of up to 15 minutes, and should stay alert for new signs and changes to the traffic pattern.
Based on weather and progress of work, both directions of traffic will begin using the newly constructed westbound lanes by late afternoon.
Access will be maintained to all private and commercial entrances. Residents within the work zone should be aware of moving construction vehicles and proceed with caution when entering and exiting the highway.
Existing message boards will be updated to notify drivers of the new traffic pattern.
The $23.6 million Route 3 project will widen the last remaining portion of two-lane highway between Culpeper and Fredericksburg. The project’s completion date is May 4, 2017.
