RT. 245 REDUCED TO ONE LANE AT BROAD RUN BRIDGE
Traffic controlled by temporary signal beginning Oct. 24

CULPEPER — A new traffic pattern will take effect Monday, Oct. 24 on Route 245 (Old Tavern Road) in Fauquier County as construction continues on the Broad Run bridge rehabilitation project.

Located between Interstate 66 and Route 55 at The Plains, the Route 245 bridge over Broad Run is being reconstructed in phases so a single 11-foot travel lane can be maintained.

Beginning Oct. 24, the road will be reduced to one lane and two-way traffic will take turns crossing the bridge via traffic signals at both ends of the project. Message boards and restricted-width route signs will be in place to notify the public.

Motorists are asked to be mindful of the new traffic pattern and use caution as they approach the work zone. Tractor-trailers and other large vehicles are advised to follow the detour route.

The existing concrete bridge was built in 1935 and carries an average of 3,500 vehicles daily, according to a 2015 traffic count.

Under a $595,409 contract, Virginia Department of Transportation contractor McClain & Company, Inc. of Culpeper is replacing the existing bridge deck and rehabilitating the bridge abutments. Work began this summer and will be completed in April 2017.  For more information about Virginia’s bridges and VDOT’s bridge inspection program, including current conditions of the state’s bridges, FAQs and video of a bridge inspection, visit www.virginiadot.org/info/Bridge.asp.
