RT. 607 BRIDGE OVER ELK RUN TO CLOSE FOR REPLACEMENT
Fauquier Co. bridge closed March 7 to 31; motorists should use an alternate route
CULPEPER — A segment of Route 607 (Shenandoah Path) in Fauquier County will be closed for about four weeks beginning Monday, March 7 while a crew with the Virginia Department of Transportation replaces the structurally-deficient bridge over Elk Run.
The bridge is located 0.8 mile north of Route 806 (Elk Run Road) and 0.7 mile south of Route 811 (Windwright Road). During the closure, motorists should seek alternate routes.
Weather permitting, the road is expected to reopen to traffic on Thursday, March 31.
The 52 year-old timber-deck bridge is currently posted with a 12-ton weight limit, which prohibits use by fire trucks and other large vehicles. The upcoming work involves replacing the bridge with a structure that can carry all legal-weight vehicles.
Message boards will be in place to notify motorists of the closure.
