RT. 663 BRIDGE IN LOUISA CO. TO CLOSE JAN. 11-29
VDOT crew will replace bridge over Owens Creek; detour in place for motorists
CULPEPER — Beginning Monday, the Virginia Department of Transportation will close Route 663 (Owens Creek Road) in Louisa County for about three weeks while a crew works on the bridge over Owens Creek.
The road will be closed from Route 611 (Dongola Road) to 0.8 mile south of Route 610 (Holly Grove Drive). Weather permitting, the work is expected to be complete with the road reopened to traffic on Friday, Jan. 29.
During the closure, northbound traffic will be detoured on Route 611 south to Route 250 (Broad Street Road) to Route 522 (Cross Country Road), which carries motorists back to Route 663. Southbound traffic will reverse the detour.
The existing structurally-deficient, timber-deck bridge is posted with a 12-ton weight limit, which prohibits use by some large vehicles. The upcoming work involves replacing the bridge, built in 1950, with a structure that can carry all legal-weight vehicles.
Message boards will be in place to notify motorists of the closure.
