RT. 685 BRIDGE WILL CLOSE FOR REHABILITATION NOV. 14
Motorists detoured during the six-week closure

CULPEPER — The Virginia Department of Transportation will close the Route 685 (Fleetwood Heights Road) bridge over Flat Run in Culpeper County for approximately six weeks for rehabilitation.

The bridge, located 0.8 mile east of Route 663 (Alanthus Road) and 1.1 miles west of Route 676 (Beverly Ford Road), will be closed beginning Nov. 14. Weather permitting, the road is expected to reopen to traffic Dec. 23.

Drivers west of the bridge should use Route 663 to Route 15/29 (James Madison Highway) and turn left on Route 676, which carries traffic back to Route 685. Motorists on the east side of the bridge should reverse the detour. Driveway access will be maintained for local traffic.

The existing Flat Run bridge was built in 1933 and carries approximately 870 vehicles daily, according to a 2014 traffic count.

Message boards will be in place to notify the public of the closure.
