SERVICE RESTORED TO ALL CENTURYLINK CUSTOMERS
VDOT, contractor will investigate, improve procedures to prevent future incidents
CHARLOTTESVILLE — Service has been restored to all CenturyLink customers in the Charlottesville region who were affected by yesterday’s outage. Service was interrupted after a construction crew working on the Route 29-Rio Road grade-separated intersection project damaged an underground cable that carries telephone and data for CenturyLink customers.
The Virginia Department of Transportation and its contractor, Lane-Corman Joint Venture, are investigating how the cable was struck and will improve procedures to prevent damage to underground utilities during excavation and construction operations on the Route 29 Solutions design-build projects.
