TWYMANS MILL RD. PROJECT BEGINS MONDAY
VDOT will close segment of roadway through Oct. 16 to improve safety at Turner Dr.

CULPEPER — On Monday, the Virginia Department of Transportation will close a portion of Route 614 (Twymans Mill Road) in Madison County to begin a roadway improvement project at the intersection of Route 706 (Turner Drive).

The project involves grading and drainage work as well as asphalt repaving on Route 614 to improve sight distance and safety at the intersection. VDOT contractor Kickin’ Asphalt Paving and Excavating LLC of Strasburg will perform the work under a $536,527.31 contract, which was executed in April.

Motorists should plan for the road to remain closed through the project’s Oct. 17 completion date. A detour will be posted to direct westbound traffic to Route 15 (James Madison Highway) to Route 230 (Orange Road) to Route 705 (Twymans Mill Road) and back to Route 614. Eastbound traffic will reverse the detour.

Access will be maintained to all driveways and entrances.

According to a 2015 traffic count, Route 614 carries 450 vehicles daily. Approximately 150 vehicles use Route 706 each day.
