Icy conditions on secondary routes in Albemarle, Fluvanna, Louisa and Orange counties
CULPEPER — Most roads in the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Culpeper District are clear with the exception of secondary routes in several southern counties where drivers may encounter freezing conditions early this morning.
Secondary roads in Albemarle, Louisa and Orange counties are reported in minor condition, with patches of frozen snow and ice on the roads, and the secondary routes in Fluvanna County are in moderate condition, with significant amounts of frozen snow and ice patches on the roads. VDOT crews have continued working overnight to treat primary and secondary roads in those counties and to respond to reports of slick spots throughout the district.
Temperatures will be well below freezing until later this morning and any moisture left on the roads has frozen overnight. Drivers planning to travel early Thursday morning should expect the potential for isolated patches of snow and ice on road surfaces, especially on bridges, ramps, overpasses and other areas prone to freezing.
Motorists should reduce speed, increase following distance and use VDOT’s free 511 tools to know road conditions along their routes and at their destination.
Additional information about winter-weather preparations and response can be found at www.virginiadot.org/travel/snow.asp. Local updates are posted to Twitter.com/VaDOTCulp and on the district’s snow information webpage.
VDOT’s Culpeper District includes the counties of Albemarle, Culpeper, Fauquier, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock.
