I-95 NORTHBOUND FULL TRAFFIC STOPS SCHEDULED OVERNIGHT IN STAFFORD COUNTY
All I-95 northbound traffic will be stopped intermittently between midnight and 3 a.m. early Thursday, Aug. 6 to continue work to remove an overhead sign north of Exit 133 (Route 17)
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – All Interstate 95 northbound traffic will be stopped intermittently between midnight and 3 a.m. early Thursday, Aug. 6 to allow crews to continue work to remove an overhead sign north of Exit 133 (Route 17) in Stafford County.
Overnight travelers should anticipate delays with I-95 northbound being reduced to one lane near Exit 133 starting at 10 p.m. tonight, Aug. 5, to allow crews to prepare for the full traffic stops.
Crews need an additional night of full traffic stops to remove the overhead sign as construction continues on a new overpass for Route 652 (Truslow Road) as part of the I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.
Traffic may be stopped for up to 30 minutes at a time. In between each stop, congestion will be allowed to clear before the next full stop.
Lane closures on I-95 northbound are scheduled at the following times:
Wednesday, Aug. 5 – Thursday, Aug. 6
- 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – Double lane closure
- Midnight to 3 a.m. – Intermittent full traffic stops up to 30 minutes
- 4:30 a.m. – All lanes open
Message boards will be posted along I-95 northbound to alert motorists to delays ahead.
Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control in the work zone.
Crews are currently building the 10-mile extension of the I-95 Express Lanes in the median of I-95 from south of Exit 143 (Route 610) to the vicinity of Exit 133 (Route 17).
Construction on the $565 million project began in July 2019.
The extended Express Lanes are anticipated to open to traffic in late 2022. All work related to the project is scheduled to be completed in 2023.
Transurban, the operator of the existing 95 Express Lanes facility, is managing construction of the I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension. The design-build project contractor is a joint venture between Branch Civil and Flatiron.
