Overnight Traffic Stoppages, Lane Closures On I-66 This Week For Overhead Sign Gantry Removal
Work is weather dependent
FAIRFAX, Va. - Overhead gantry removal will require overnight lane closures and stoppages on eastbound and westbound I-66 between I-495 and Monument Drive Thursday, November 29, through Saturday, December 1. Stoppages of up to 20 minutes will occur simultaneously in both directions as crews use two large cranes to remove super gantries that span the entire width of the roadway.
All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
Details include:
Thursday, November 29: I-66 East and West between Monument Drive and Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road)
- Three left lanes will be closed on eastbound and westbound I-66 between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
- Periodic stoppages in both directions on I-66 from midnight to 4 a.m. between Jermantown Road and Waples Mill Road.
Friday, November 30: I-66 East and West between Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) and Route 650 (Gallows Road)
- Three left lanes will be closed on eastbound and westbound I-66 between 9 p.m. and 9 a.m.
- Periodic stoppages in both directions on I-66 from midnight to 5 a.m. between Vaden Drive and Cedar Lane.
Saturday, December 1: I-66 East and West between Vaden Drive and I-495
- Three left lanes will be closed on eastbound and westbound I-66 between 9 p.m. and 9 a.m.
- Periodic stoppages in both directions on I-66 from midnight to 5 a.m. between Nutley Street and Cedar Lane.
The I-66 Outside the Beltway Express Lanes are expected to open in December 2022.
