I-495 Southbound Nightly Lane Closures in Tysons August 27-28
Traffic shift for joint work on bridges over the Dulles Toll Road

TYSONS – The southbound I-495 (Capital Beltway Outer Loop) general purpose lanes will have nightly triple lane closures along the three bridges over the Dulles Toll Road (Route 267) and related ramps, weather permitting, Friday, Aug. 27 and Saturday, Aug. 28 for restriping to implement a temporary traffic shift for bridge joint work, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Lane closures are scheduled to occur along southbound I-495 as follows:

  • Three left lanes closed from 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27 to 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28
  • Three right lanes closed from 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28 to 9 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 29

At least one lane of southbound I-495 will remain open at all times. Also remaining open will be the southbound I-495 general purpose lanes ramp to the westbound Dulles Toll Road (Exit 45A), and the southbound I-495 ramp to eastbound Route 267 (Exit 45B).

Drivers should expect delays and are advised to use alternate routes.

On the morning of Sunday, Aug. 29, southbound I-495 traffic will be shifted to the left for about two months to allow crews to remove and replace joints along the three bridges over the Dulles Toll Road and related ramps.

Drivers are reminded to use caution when traveling in active work zones. Be alert to new traffic patterns and limit distractions.
