In Design: Route 667 (Catterton Road), Albemarle County

Cost and schedule ►

This project will replace the existing Route 667 (Catterton Road) bridge over Piney Creek in Albemarle County.

The existing timber deck bridge was built in 1932 and is considered structurally deficient.

VDOT proposes replacing the existing timber deck bridge with a slightly wider concrete slab bridge with an asphalt riding surface.

During construction, Route 667 will be closed to through traffic near 665 (Buck Mountain Road) with a posted detour. Drivers will detour via Route 601 (Free Union Road) and Route 665.

Construction is expected to begin in spring 2023.

The Route 667 bridge carries approximately 130 vehicles per day.

Once construction is complete in spring 2024, the bridge will be open to all legal weight vehicles.

VDOT held a design public hearing for this project on Oct. 15, 2019. Public meeting materials are available below in the resources section. Click on previous meetings.

Benefits

This project will rehabilitate an existing substandard bridge on a state-maintained roadway that serves residential areas, local businesses and industries.

If not rehabilitated, the existing bridge will continue to deteriorate and will eventually have to be closed to vehicles.
