This project will build a new Interstate 95 overpass on Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) in Spotsylvania County, and provide improvements to interstate ramps, Mudd Tavern Road east of I-95 and Mallard Road.
Construction will begin in October 2017, and is scheduled to be completed in September 2019.
As part of its design-build proposal, Shirley Contracting created a modified design concept that improves traffic flow at the Exit 118 interchange on I-95 while minimizing the amount of right of way needed to build the project. The proposed concept also limits traffic impacts on Route 606 during construction.
Benefits
- Replaces a structurally deficient bridge over Interstate 95
- Builds a modern overpass, with additional travel lanes and through lanes, to address current and future traffic demand in the Thornburg area
- New interchange design accommodates new and wider overpass, and is designed to improve travel for motorists entering and exiting I-95 at Exit 118
