To quickly and safely install a second lane on the ramp from I-95 south to Arthur Ashe Boulevard, crews are proposing to close the ramp for 30-45 days in February-March 2022 with two detour route options in place.
- Drivers coming from I-64 east would be detoured to Laburnum Avenue, followed by Saunders Avenue, to Westwood Avenue back to Arthur Ashe Boulevard.
- Drivers coming from I-95 south would be detoured to I-195 south to the Hamilton Avenue exit, followed by Westwood Avenue back to Arthur Ashe Boulevard.
- If drivers miss these detour options, they may also take Exit 76B to Leigh Street from I-95 south and follow Leigh back to Arthur Ashe Boulevard.
The purpose of the project is to widen the ramp from I-95 south to Arthur Ashe Boulevard (Route 161) in the City of Richmond for added capacity and improved traffic flow. The ramp will be widened from one to two lanes for added capacity and lanes will be reallocated at the I-95, I-64 merge point to enhance traffic flow.
Once complete, the project will allow more vehicles to access the ramp to Arthur Ashe Boulevard and will enhance capacity and traffic flow.
