The New Kent West Safety Rest Area reopened April 26, 2007.

The facility was designed by DJG Inc. and built by David A. Nice Builders Inc., both of Williamsburg.

The $5.06 million project was completed ahead of schedule.

It features 9,000+ square-foot building with restrooms, an indoor vending area and an enclosed lobby.

The facility has a security monitoring system and ample lighting. A children's play area and picnic and pet areas are available, as is travel and traffic information.

It also includes innovative energy and water conservation systems that reduce short- and long-term maintenance and utility costs. It was designed to meet the United States Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards. Brochure PDF (PDF, 2.25 MB)
